Best Plain English Document awards
There are two awards in the Best Plain English Document category:
- Public Sector / Non-Government Organisation (NGO)
- Private Sector.
The Best Plain English Document awards recognise the best examples of plain English documents from each sector. Entries are judged against internationally accepted principles of plain English.
What you need to know
Each organisation may enter up to three complete documents written by their organisation. But if your organisation is made up of many entities, each entity can enter up to three documents. For example, the Ministry of Social Development is split into many entities, including Work and Income, StudyLink, and the Office for Senior Citizens. Each entity can enter three documents under its own name.
You can enter a series of documents, such as a set of pamphlets that all go together. You must enter them as one document, and they will be judged as one item.
There is no limit to document length, but we encourage shorter entries where possible. Entries should be whole documents, rather than extracts.
On the entry form you will be asked to give details of the document's purpose, the intended audience, and the results achieved. You will also be asked if the document was user-tested.
Public Sector / Non-Government Organisation
This award is open to all New Zealand public sector organisations and NGOs.
Private Sector
This award is open to any private sector organisation that has a New Zealand office.
