Best Plain English Website — Public Sector 2011
Judges' comments
Winner: Careers New Zealand
www.careers.govt.nz
The very user-focused content invites people to explore this site. The content is nicely chunked into meaningful sections and the information is tiered, with increasing levels of detail. The site makes good use of plain English and consistently uses a nice conversational tone. Bulleted lists are used appropriately. The little personal stories are a nice touch.
Finalist: PHARMAC
www.spacetobreathe.co.nz
This site’s content is well supported by its design and feels easy to use. The main navigation is logically laid out, so it’s easy to quickly find out about what asthma is, how to spot it and what to do. The content is broken up well and it's good to have summaries at the top of each page.
Finalist: Ministry of Consumer Affairs
www.consumeraffairs.govt.nz
This site has good overall organisation. Information was nicely tiered from short blurbs to more detailed information and colour is used well to identify major sections of the site. Active, direct language helps people to easily find out about their rights as consumers. This site did a good job of explaining potentially confusing legal terms.
