Commerce Commission
Finalist: Plain English Champion — Best Organisation
Commerce Commission delighted to be a plain English finalist
The Commerce Commission thanks the Plain English Awards for recognising the huge effort we’ve made over the past year to implement plain English in our organisation.
A year ago the Commerce Commission received a 'Brainstrain' award for a page of content on our website.
“A year later, and partly due to the 'Brainstrain' award, we have implemented a plain English programme. We have put our staff through plain English training, implemented a new Style Guide for our documents, and begun to rewrite much of our web content and published materials,” said Brent Alderton, CEO.
“We are not ‘there yet’, but have taken huge steps forward and will continue to do so over the coming year. We recognise how important it is to help our readers understand the complexities of our work,” said Mr Alderton.
“The Commission has an important role in informing businesses and consumers of New Zealand about the benefits of competition to our economy. We aim to increase this understanding through clearer communication, and that means using plain English.”
