Accountants and lawyers are often criticised for not writing for the audience and as a result much damage is done to these professions. At Deloitte we recognised some time ago that overly complicated communication serves only to deepen the divide between client and advisor, which is why one of our key values in the firm is 'Talk Straight.'
Although it is our job to know the technicalities behind our advice, it is equally important to demonstrate the value of it. Communicating clearly is the first and most vital step. If clients cannot decipher how our advice will affect them in clear and simple terms, we will not get the best out of the relationship.
