'We're delighted the Department of Conservation website has been recognised in the 2008 WriteMark New Zealand Plain English Awards.
Plain English is about putting your audience first. Working on the DOC website we have to put our audience first because our audience is the future of conservation. We want to make it as easy as possible for people to learn about DOC's conservation work, to get involved in conservation themselves and to get out and enjoy New Zealand's glorious parks and reserves.
We have a big website, about 12,000 pages, so there's always room for improvement. We also have a big team working on the site, more than 500 writers and editors up and down the country. Recognition like this makes the whole team's hard work even more rewarding.'
