The following Terms of use apply to entries in the
2018 Plain English Awards. By entering the Awards, you
agree to these Terms of use.
For all categories, except the People’s Choice category, you agree to pay the entry fee of $125+GST for each entry ($65+GST for registered charities). You will need to pay online by credit card when you enter. If you’re a charity, you will need to provide your registration number to be eligible for the reduced fee.
Nominations for the People’s Choice Awards are free.
You may enter the same material for more than one award, as long as your entry complies with the requirements for the awards entered.
Each organisation may submit up to three entries in each award category.
But if your organisation is made up of many entities, each entity can submit up to three entries. For example, the Ministry of Social Development is split into many entities, including Work and Income, StudyLink, and the Office for Senior Citizens. Each entity can submit three entries under its own name.
If two entries are equally good, judges will give greater weight to the entry that was produced entirely in-house.
When you enter, you must say:
As a condition of entry, you agree to be contacted after the Awards ceremony by sponsor organisations to discuss the services they offer on a no-obligation basis.
The Awards are run on a not-for-profit basis, and the Plain English Awards Trust depends on the generous support of our sponsors to run the Awards.
The purpose of the Plain English Awards Trust, and the Awards ceremony, is to help bring plain English into common use in New Zealand. As a condition of entry, you agree to provide a short media statement to the Plain English Awards Trust within a week of being announced as a finalist or winner. Your statement is an opportunity for your organisation to publicly acknowledge its efforts to use plain English, and illustrate the benefits you achieve for readers of your documents.
As a condition of entry, you agree to information and photos about your entry and organisation being published.
Organisation names, case studies, winning documents, event photos, and media statements may be published at the 2018 Plain English Awards ceremony on 15 November and in various media after the event.
If you win, only an employee or representative from your organisation may collect the award
As a condition of entry, you agree that an employee from your organisation will collect the award.
If you have used external consultants to work on your document or website, you may acknowledge the consultants in whatever way you feel is appropriate.
