Jacquie Harrison engaged with the plain English philosophy in the early 1990s when she wrote her doctoral thesis on the readability of public documents in New Zealand. Since then she has completed several research projects testing the accessibility of New Zealand legislation.
A member of the judging panel for the WriteMark Awards since they started in 2006, Jacquie has noted the rising profile of the WriteMark Awards as an annual event. She says it reflects the continuing enthusiasm of ordinary New Zealand citizens for public documents that are clear and easy to read.
