Ministry of Social Development and People First
Winner: Plain English Champion — Best Project
United Nations
People First New Zealand Incorporated and the Office for Disability Issues at the Ministry of Social Development are joint winners for a project to encourage submissions on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The challenge was to transform a jargon-filled discussion document into plain English and easy-read so:
- the voices and views of disabled people were heard
- all parts of the disability sector could understand it
- people could respond with their everyday experiences and connect them to their rights under the convention.
We are delighted that our efforts helped generate submissions on the convention and that we have been honoured with this award.
