NZ Transport Agency — 'Give Way Rule' Team
Finalist: Plain English Champion — Best Individual or Team 2012
Judges' comment
Their campaign shows the power of plain English to communicate clearly to a broad audience and avoid misunderstanding. In this case it was literally a matter of life and death. Their focus on the essential messages is a great demonstration of plain English principles.
Media statement
The NZ Transport Agency ‘Give Way Rule’ team is delighted to be a finalist in the Best Individual or Team category. We worked hard to ensure that our language was as plain as possible while still conveying the legal intent of the rules — no easy feat!
All our communications material followed a ‘less is more’ approach. We used simple words and illustrations to explain the two rule changes and the date of change. We wanted to minimise confusion and maximise compliance.
