ACC
Finalist: People's Choice — Best Plain English Communication
Judges' comment
This website is a refreshing burst of simplicity and plain, welcoming language. We did have some difficulty with the navigation system, but otherwise found the information easy to understand. We particularly liked the use of client quotations and the overall display of empathy for users.
You have clearly thought the site out carefully. It has a simple design and good division of information so the reader doesn’t feel overwhelmed. We think taking another look at the navigation system could lead to further improvement. Well done.
Media statement
ACC’s website FindSupport has been selected as a finalist in the 2015 WriteMark Plain English Awards in the People’s Choice — Best Plain English Communication category.
The website explains in simple and clear language where people who have experienced sexual violence can go to find help.
ACC’s Head of Injury Prevention, Partnerships and Delivery, Emma Powell, says this is a wonderful recognition for a service that began a year ago.
‘It is particularly significant the website was nominated for the People’s Choice award by those who use it,’ Ms Powell says.
‘FindSupport provides safe and flexible access to a range of ACC support, assessment, and treatment services for sensitive claims.
‘In addition to information about ACC’s services, people who have experienced the trauma of sexual abuse and violence can find help by entering a range of preferences such as region, gender of the therapist, and a therapist’s areas of experience and expertise.’
Ms Powell says the success of FindSupport has been dependant on ACC ensuring survivors’ stories were heard and understood and their experiences and knowledge were fully incorporated into the development of the site.
‘These are some of ACC’s most vulnerable clients, and to be able to listen to their thoughts and ideas and then turn them into this website and design of the service has been invaluable.’
FindSupport is a part of ACC’s Integrated Services for Sensitive Claims (ISSC) and has recorded 56,254 visits to the site in the 12 months it has been operating.
