‘The Retail Institute is thrilled to be chosen as a finalist in this year’s WriteMark Plain English Awards inaugural ‘Best Project’ category, for our Customer Service training resource.
‘This new resource is an exciting step forward in the Retail Institute’s focus on developing attractive, engaging, easy-to-use training materials. Our aim is to encourage young people to see retail as a ‘career of choice’, with clear development opportunities for those with sound training and a focus on excellence.
‘I am very proud of my resource development team, who took this project from concept to delivery. This recognition is well deserved and adds to the very positive feedback we have already received from employers and trainees who are using this resource in their workplaces.
‘Plain English resources are critical in encouraging training in an industry that makes up 17% of the national workforce. That amounts to 325,000 people, many with English-as-a-second-language backgrounds, in need of upskilling to meet our future business challenges.
‘Traditionally there has been a low uptake of training in this industry, yet employers across the board have identified ‘good customer service’ training as one of the make-or-break criteria for their businesses. This award assures us that we are on the right track in supporting the retail industry in its training needs.’
