Terms and conditions for the 2015 Plain English Awards
The following terms and conditions apply to entries in the 2015 Plain English Awards (except People's Choice nominations). By entering the Awards, you agree to these terms and conditions.
You may enter documents or websites for more than one award
You may enter the same material for more than one award, as long as your entry complies with the requirements for the awards entered.
Each organisation may put in three entries per category
Each organisation may put up to three entries in each award category.
But if your organisation is made up of many entities, each entity can put in up to three entries. For example, the Ministry of Social Development is split into many entities, including Work and Income, StudyLink, and the Office for Senior Citizens. Each entity can put in three entries under its own name.
Judges will take into account how much external help you had
If two entries are equally good, judges will give greater weight to the entry that was produced entirely in-house.
When you enter, you must say:
- if you had an outside agency work on the entry
- how much work that agency did for you, for example, writing, substantive redrafting, copy editing, proofreading.
Your details will be provided to sponsors
As a condition of entry, you agree to be contacted after the Awards ceremony by sponsor organisations to discuss the services they offer on a no-obligation basis.
The Awards are run on a not-for-profit basis, and the Plain English Awards Trust depends on the generous support of our sponsors to run the Awards without entry fees.
You will provide a statement for the Awards website if you are a finalist or winner
The purpose of the Plain English Awards Trust, and the Awards ceremony, is to help bring plain English into common use in New Zealand. As a condition of entry, you agree to provide a short media statement to the Plain English Awards Trust within a week of being announced as a finalist or winner. Your statement is an opportunity for your organisation to publicly acknowledge its efforts to use plain English, and to illustrate the benefits you achieve for readers of your documents.
Information and photos about your award entries may be published
As a condition of entry, you agree to information and photos about your entry and organisation being published.
Organisation names, case studies, winning documents, event photos, and media statements may be published at the 2015 Plain English Awards ceremony and in various media after the event.
If you win, only an employee from your organisation may collect the award
As a condition of entry, you agree that an employee or representative from your organisation will collect the award.
If you have used external consultants to work on your document or website, you may acknowledge the consultants in whatever way you feel is appropriate.
